About us
Our school is blessed to have highly committed and dedicated teaching staff who are
sacrificing their time and family time in order to teach an African child. We are a seven-day school
teaching from Monday to Sunday. The sacrifices that our educators
make are reflected in the quality results they produce at the end of each academic year, always
breaking the new grounds.
Our History
Sibusisiwe Comprehensive Technical High School, founded by social worker and philanthropist Sibusisiwe Violet Makhanya (1894-1971), began as classes in her home for the Umbumbulu community. The school has grown into a beacon of hope and academic excellence for the wider Umlazi District, achieving a consistent Matric pass rate of 95%-99% over the past decade with an average of 250 Matric students annually. Now hosting 1800 learners, the school offers diverse subject streams including Humanities, Sciences (with Life Sciences and Maritime Economics), Commerce, and Technical subjects like Power Systems, Welding, Metalwork, Automotive, and Construction. Despite large class sizes and limited space, the school's success is attributed to dedicated staff, disciplined students, and supportive parents, remaining steadfast in its vision of academic excellence.
Current Day
In 2005, a new Principal improved Matric results from 34% to 72%, leading to a period of academic excellence. Over the past 15 years, the school achieved a 90%-98% Matric pass rate. With 1,785 learners (as of 2020), it offers a diverse curriculum including Computer Applications Technology, Maritime Economics, Engineering Graphics & Design, and four technical subjects. Despite large class sizes, the school consistently excels, fulfilling its vision of excellence and overcoming rural challenges.
Our Learners
Our school only admits Grade 8 learners who are recruited during the second term for the following academic year. We normally receive more than 1000 application forms (through online application and Neighboring Primary Schools application method), unfortunately our floor space does not allow us to admit more than 360 Grade 8 learners. Most learners we admit understand the culture of our school and sacrifices they have to make in order to achieve good results. We have over the past years produced learners who
achieved straight A's (8As) in their NSC Examination and that has become our norm as a school.
Our learners are results driven and always aim to breaks new record. New learners who join our
school from Grade 8 always ensure that they write their own history so that they leave legacy
behind after completing Grade 12.
